  • Greetings

Dear esteemed members of the Korean Liver Transplantation Society,

I am Kwang-Woong Lee, honored to serve as the 11th President of the Korean Liver Transplantation Society (KLTS).

Since its establishment in 1998, our society has marked half a century of history. Over the years, KLTS has taken great pride in its significant contributions to the advancement of liver transplantation in Korea. However, we believe the time has come to move beyond our domestic focus and establish ourselves as a leading society that serves as a global hub for Korean liver transplantation. To this end, the 11th Executive Board is preparing a series of transformative initiatives.

  • First, Renaming the Society and Diversifying Committees

To align with the vision of an independent academic society and maintain consistency with our specialized field, we plan to rename the society as the Korean Liver Transplantation Society (KLTS). Additionally, we will diversify our committees to enrich the regular academic conferences.

  • Second, Internationalization of the Annual Autumn Congress

In line with our role as a global leader in liver transplantation, we aim to transform our annual autumn congress into an international congress. This initiative will provide an educational opportunity for professionals in liver transplantation from across the world, including the Asia-Pacific region.

  • Third, Regional Expansion of KLTS Seminar

To promote liver transplantation in regional areas, we will extend our traditionally Seoul-centered KLTS seminar to other regions. This effort is intended to foster the growth and development of our regional members.

  • Fourth, Transition to a Multidisciplinary Academic Society

To move beyond a surgery-focused society, we will broaden our scope to include internal medicine, radiology, pathology, anesthesiology, and transplantation coordination. By doing so, we aim to transform into a multidisciplinary academic society that encourages participation from experts across various fields related to liver transplantation.

  • Fifth, Preparation for Official Registration as a Society Under the Korean Association of Medical Societies (KAMS)

Currently, the Korean Liver Transplantation Society is neither an officially registered society under the Korean Association of Medical Societies (KAMS) nor a subsidiary society of any academic association. To gain official recognition, we will undertake the necessary preparatory steps, including strengthening our official journal, Annals of Liver Transplantation.

  • Achieving these objectives will require the dedicated support and participation of our members. We sincerely appreciate your continued trust and commitment.
